There is a tension in the poet’s longing towards the complete book, wanting not to be too swept up in the commercialism, yet needing some kind of readership to engage with the poems. As poetry has evolved from the utterance from the mouth alone, and has changed and moved with technology over the centuries, consciousness itself is aligned with its fluctuations: poetry informs and echoes the medium in which it is given. Bianca Stone talks with Ruth Stone House, poet in residence, and her assistant, Carson Jordan, about Stone’s newest collection of poetry, The Near and Distant World, as well as the work of the poet in general, making a book.
